winter semester 2020/2021 | Last update: 31.08.2020 | Place course on memo listAt the end of the seminar, students will have become familiar with the theoretical work of a group of late-20th and early-21st century scholars, after having developed a set of critical tools to discuss and relate their ideas to contemporary architecture.
Architecture into the Universe of Social Networks 2
Since the 1990s, the relationship between architecture and media has become the object of interest of a growing community of scholars and designers. Nevertheless, the vast majority of researches on the topic tend to address traditional media such as books, magazines and fanzines. Therefore, an important question emerges: how do the Internet and social media affect architecture? Gathering literature from different fields, the seminar will focus on theoretical debates regarding the influence of digital communication technologies on cultural production. Exemplary case studies in the fields of art and architecture will also be debated. The aim of the seminar is to provide a first understanding of the current “Post-Internet” condition, while exploring its potential for architectural thinking and design. Selected essays and excerpts on media, art, architecture and social theory will be read, analyzed, interpreted, and discussed. Exploiting the condition of distance learning that will characterize the whole seminar, students will experiment with the format of the video essay in order to systematize and present the outcome of their researchers.
The seminar will take place every two weeks and will be based on:
a) lectures by the instructor;
b) oral presentations by the participants;
c) workshop activity.
Course examination according to § 7, statute section on "study-law regulations".
The final evaluation will be based on the following criteria:
a) presence;
b) interaction with the class;
c) quality of weekly presentations;
d) quality of the final delivery.
Will be discussed in the first lesson.
