The objective of this course is to provide tools to the graduate students to analyze the operation the various types of power converters. On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • Analyze and design various types of switch-mode DC converters, rectifiers and inverters.
  • Explain the control of power converters using pulse-width modulation (PWM).
  • Select Power Semiconductors according to the converter topology and requirements.
  • Select Power Capacitors according to the converter topology and requirements.
  • Select and design Power Inductors and Transformers according to the converter topology and requirements.

Fundamentals of Switching Mode Power Converters, Modelling & Control of Power Converters, Analysis of Power Converters, Power Semiconductor Losses, Power Converter Losses, Selection of Power Semiconductors, Analysis and Design of Input & Output Filters, Design and Selection of Filter Inductors, Design & Selection of MF and HF Transformers, Selection of DC Bus & Filter Capacitors
