In the course, selected basic texts of feminist-marxist theory will be studied by means of close reading. The aim is to introduce students to Marx’ theory and materialist social and state theory and to discuss how political economy and the capitalist society are interwoven wth gender, heteronormativity, colonialism and racism.

The starting point of the seminar is Marx's critique of the political economy. In a first step, central concepts of Marxist theory and critique will be discussed. Based on this, in the second part the seminar will address Marx's voids: Discussing texts from feminist and queer theory, trans* studies, postcolonial studies and critical race theory, we will theorize how capitalism is based on gendered, heteronormative regimes of care, how capitalism and colonialism are interwoven, and how capitalism can be theorized as "racial capitalism". In this way, the aim of the seminar is to show that exploitation, inequality, and the structural crises in capitalism can only be comprehensively theorized from an intersectional perspective.
