This lecture consists of two parts:

Part one (Weiskopf) discusses ethical questions and challenges associated with processes of datafication. This includes questions of responsibility in algorithmic decision-making, the concept of surveillance capitalism and its ethical implications, ethical dimensions of digital work and labour as well as ethical dimensions of new forms of transparency and visibility.

Part two (Soppe) is concerned with activism in the digital age. We will discuss various forms of social activism and collective action in the digital era. An emphasis will also be on the digital and social media used for activism, narration strategies, as well as effects and implications for firms and society. Another important topic of the course will be the dark side of online activism.
