The American South as a cultural region has always had an identity of its own with a marked historical influence from its ante-bellum past, the Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement. In the last two decades it has undergone rapid and fundamental changes from a bi-racial society to a multi-racial society with different groups developing their own distinct identities. Moreover, there is still a discrepancy between inside and outside perceptions of the South. All this makes the American South a fascinating region to deal with.

Finding relevant information/material (of sufficient credibility); effective presentation of a topic in class; discussion in class; writing a research paper.
