After this course you will have become familiar with the fields of English and American studies and you will have learned how to search for, find, evaluate, organise and integrate relevant information efficiently into your own academic work.
This course introduces you to the fields of English and American Studies – and to the respective Departments at Innsbruck University – and is designed to run parallel to the lecture “VO Grundlagen des philologisch-kulturwissenschaftlichen Studiums”. You will enter the academic world of research and get a first-hand experience of a conference held at Innsbruck University; furthermore, you will train your research skills by doing academic research on a topic of your choice; while working on your topic, you will be keeping a research journal. You will practise using libraries, databases and the Internet and the format and style of academic research papers (the MLA style in particular).
