This course introduces students to various technical aspects of film, such as camera and editing, as well as to aspects of style, film history and theory. Additionally, there will be a practical part which will allow students – with the help of an experienced tutor – to script, produce and direct their own (short) films. Covering a wide variety of basic elements of filmmaking and theorizing about film, this course serves as a preparation for future proseminars and seminars dealing with the subject.
Lecture, texts and film clips, individual and group discussion, final test, group production of short clips.
