Basic ideas of science’ communication: in order to interest the public for complex topics and results from research and other scientific work, an understandable, comprehensive and convincing way of writing is required. The educational objective is oriented toward practical application and the acquisition of basic skills in scientific journalism (restricted to print media).
Print media as science’s mouthpiece. Communicating results of research work to a broad public include for scientists a chance but also a danger and a responsibility.
We approach the “Business of knowledge transfer” by presenting practical tools and basic skills of journalistic writing across the different formats and texts of the print media: reports, reportages, reviews, articles, feuilletons, interviews, commentaries etc. During the seminar, tips and tricks found in printed samples will be closely scrutinized and applied to own practical work. Together with this training of practical skills the relationship of science, media and public will be addressed and the practical use of media competence for scientists (such as economical and didactical aspects) will be discussed.
Active co-operation, participation in discussions, text work: the transformation or the translation of a scientific text in a journalistic format.
