This seminar will bring participants to develop an awareness of the role of language planning in the present spread of English; apart from reviewing some aspects of language planning and of language policies in general, participants will be required to investigate specific situations related to individual countries or areas in which the presence of English has been the object of debate in relation to language policy and language planning issues. The assessment for this seminar will also be based on individual presentations and on the submission of a seminar paper on the case-study chosen by the student.
