This course introduces students to recent modes of historical thought and method—with particular attention to racial, class, and gender analysis, document analysis, the uses of theory, experimental narratives, and new directions in cultural, transnational, and political history. Students will also receive a practical introduction to conducting graduate-level research, including a familiarity with online resources and archives.
General introduction to the topic, presentation of papers, discussion
Reading, class discussion, completion of formal research proposal, presentation of student projects
