Observations of energetic gamma rays at the highest accessible part of the electromagnetic spectrum require advanced analysis and data handling concepts uncommon in other astronomy branches. The lecture highlights the basic principles that lead from detector layout and data taking to the final astrophysical results, thereby deepening the student's understanding of requirements and conditions in scientific research. Topics include reconstruction of celestial events, discrimination of signals against dominant backgrounds, and the use of simulations and advanced analysis methods as e.g. multivariate analysis. The content of this lecture can later be practiced in PR 706041 held in the winter terms.
