To achieve a basis in Cultural Studies theory and acquire an overview of British culture
a) The concepts and theories of power, gender, education, globalisation, identity, and self, media and film, extremism, semiotics/language, geographical concepts etc. b) The processes and systems of British culture, customs, changing culture and repercussions, social sub-groups. c) A blending of theory and practice.
Use of contemporary sources (DVDs, Youtube etc.) and inclass discussion to heighten cultural awareness and critical thinking.
FInal exam, weekly assignments, class participation
