Communication in Business

At the end of the course, the students will be able to employ the most important methods and skills of English communication in a business context.

In detail, the course comprises the following modules: presenting oneself (curriculum vitae, job interviews), self-management (goal-setting, time and stress management) as well as the efficient behaviour in groups (moderation, asking effective questions, giving and receiving feedback) and successful presentation and telephoning techniques. The business context comprises principles of economics as well as the internal and external structuring of business enterprises.

The skills above will be trained by means of simulations, pair and group work, and case studies. The participants also have to regularly write about their development and progress in the blogs.

The student's ongoing participation and commitment in class as well as several short written assignments will be used to assess the student's performance. At the end of the semester, the students have to show their orals skills in an oral exam taken in small groups. Self-evaluation is also part of this process. Regular attendance is required.

Two course manuals will be used: “ACE – Active Communication in English” and the reading manual "Background Readings in Business". Both will be distributed in class at the beginning of the semester.

Recommended level: B2 independent user (CEFR), max. 25 participants.
