The lecture offers an overview of different theoretical concepts and of their application to contemporary society. Students are enabled to understand these different theoretical conzepts and to appriciate their potential for the anylysis of macro-social change

1. Theories of contemporary societies: modernisation theories, theories of capitalist developement, Theories of the modern gender order; 2. Theories of the developement of modern/capitalist societies and their empirical content: postindustriel society - end of "wage labor" - individualization - late capitalism - postfordism - globalization. 3. Conclusion: Current social change and theory of society: continuation, completion, cumulation or overcoming of modernity?
