To encourage an interest in reading while introducing basic conventions of good writing techniques. Reading: to encourage an interest in reading skills with particular emphasis on skimming and scanning texts. Writing: to interoduce the conventions of effective writing highlighting language, structure and content.
Reading: a variety of texts on everyday topics. Writing: a variety of paragraph types (e.g. descriptive, narrative, definition); a basic introduction to summary writing
Intensive study of texts for structural elements i.e. cohesion and coherence; in-class analysis of student-written paragraphs; simple summaries; perfecting language skills, structure and content.
Written tests of reading and writing skills.
