To achieve a basic knowledge of the theories of Cultural Studies and acquire an overview of British culture.

The concepts and theories of culture: power/empowerment, gender, education and globalisation, identity & self, semiotics/language, history, geography/location, extremism. The processes and systems of British culture, customs, mentality, cultural changes and repercussions, sub-cultures, multiculturalism. A blend of theory and practice.

Lecture incl. contemporary sources (DVDs, Youtube, Internet etc.). In-class tasks and discussions to heighten critical awareness and thinking.

Final written exam, regular written assignments (folder) and tasks as well as in-class participation.
