Examination of specialized knowledge on the historical development of the Alpine region in Roman times in the context of current issues in ancient history research.

The focus is on the history of the central Alps during the Roman period in the area of modern Switzerland, the Principality of Liechtenstein, Austria and Germany. On the basis of ancient written and archaeological sources and historical research, insights into the provincial administration, the military, economic, cultural and religious development of the Roman provinces of the Alps are worked out and current issues related to the historical research of the Alpine region are discussed.

Introduction to key issues of historical research on the Alpine region by reading ancient sources and presentations of the students.
