This course aims at the broadening of algorithmic knowledge and the improvement of programming skills (language C) taught in the course "numerical mathematics", with primary focus on stability, optimization and parallel computing. At completion of the course, participants should be able to implement complex numerical problems, use simple tools for debugging and optimization and prepare their programs appropriately for the execution on high performance computing systems.
The course encompasses the following topics, which are developed by means of concrete examples: - Analysis of complexity, stability and error of code - Fundamentals of application optimization - Handling of common numerical libraries - Introduction to parallelizing numerical algorithms, with an emphasis on OpenMP for shared memory sytems and MPI for ditributed memory, repectively cluster-systems
