Students shall be introduced to the challenging and fascinating activity of translating different types of texts.
In this course we will deal with various practical aspects of interlingual mediation between English and German, working with texts that range from from literature and film to cookbooks, travel brochures, instruction manuals, newspaper articles and magazine stories.
We will analyse translations done by professional translators as well as produce our own translations of short passages taken from authentic texts. Students are invited to make their own suggestions regarding texts they would like to analyse or translate in class.
