Competences in critical reflection of issues concerning the historical gender relations and their meanings.
Analysis and critical discussion of various source materials and texts from selected themes with regard to statements about gender relations.
Lecture and group work.
Regular participation, required reading and submit an essay to the end of semester.
Texts and materials are provided. Additionally the following two books are recommended for introduction: Claudia Opitz-Belakhal, Geschlechtergeschichte (Historische Einführungen Bd. 8), Frankfurt am Main: Campus 2010; Jürgen Martschukat, Olaf Stieglitz, Geschichte der Männlichkeiten (Historische Einführungen Bd. 5), Frankfurt am Main: Campus 2008.
