To provide an overview of central aspects of English and American Studies and familiarize students with basic research skills and methods

This course serves as a basic introduction to English and American Studies. As such it offers both an outline of the discipline and an overview of core concepts of English and American Studies. Furthermore, the course familiarizes students with the most important research tools and skills required for the further course of their studies, i.e. students will learn the effective use of library catalogues, bibliographical indices, online resources, etc. In addition, requirements for written and spoken assignments will be discussed (e.g. writing research papers, presenting, discussion leading).
