Introduction to the self-dependent reading, interpretation and classification of Spanish literary texts ; guidance to self-dependent scholarly work ; preparation for literary « proseminars » and advanced courses

The course deals with the following contents: 1. Introduction to the basics of scholarly work (how to deal with books on literary history, how to do research in print media and other media, how to establish bibliographies). 2. Introduction to the methodic and systematical reading of literary texts. 3. Introduction to text analysis (terminology ; methodology of the analysis of narrative, dramatic, and poetic texts). 4. Assistance with the acquisition of background information (especially with regard to literary history).

The aim of the course is to stimulate the student’s individual work and his active participation. Each of the four fields mentioned above will lead to a task which has to be performed by the student individually and independently (a bibliographical research, a « Lektüreblatt » on the basis of a literary text, an oral presentation, a written paper comparable to a « Proseminararbeit » ; the latter must have a positive evaluation)
