This course aims to teach students the necessary skills required to simultaneously interpret intermediate to difficult speeches from German into English. As well as accuracy of content and language, emphasis will also be placed on rhetorical skills. The course is designed to prepare students for the 3. Diplomprüfung Dolmetschen.

Simultaneous interpreting of simple speeches (both live and via video), analysis of interpretations.

Students will interpret relatively longer speeches (15-20 minutes) on a specific topic that will be addressed throughout the term. Each speech will be followed by an analysis session to discuss any difficulties and develop ways to solve these.

The final grade will be made up of several individual grades awarded on the basis of a portfolio. Students must analyse several of their interpretations during the course of the term and hand in written analyses. These written analyses form the portfolio.

Literature will be communicated via OLAT as and when necessary.

Students must have received a positive grade for the course "Simultandolmetschen I D-E".

Students may not miss more than two lectures during the course of the term.
