Expanded knowledge and independent application of art-historical methods on examples referred to in the lecture

This seminar will first focus on the basic elements of sculpture such as the craft and material and addressing introductory questions such as additive and subtractive imagination, sculpting and the problem of colour in three-dimensional objects. The relief, which has gained new importance as an artistic challenge, as well as problems like coping with balancing issues with three-dimensional objects, the depiction of time or the unexpected appearance of the ready- made will also be part of this seminars subject area. Transience and eternity will also be discussed as elements of symbolism and aesthetics, same as the „death of painting“and contemporary questions on crossing the frontiers of art genres

This lecture requires continuous assessment based on active class participation and written/ oral presentations
