Expanded knowledge and critical application of art-historical methods on examples referred to in the lecture

This lecture will analyze structures and programs of medieval Carolingian, Ottonic and Roman, as well as middle byzantine church decorations. The main focus will be discussion of architectural and liturgical requirements, the functions of autonomous paintings or pictorial series and their theological, historical and political context

Presentations, discussions and written work

This lecture requires continuous assessment based on active class participation and oral/ written presentations
