Acquisition of competences in dealing with historical sources and secondary literature on Contemporary History as well as the ability to present the newly-acquired knowledge in oral or written form.

Basic knowledge about (labor) migration in Austria and Germany since the 1950's and 1960's; critical migration research, making-up of differences, talking about migration (postcolonial approaches), national narratives and the role of migration, preliminary historical events and the legacy of the “Third Reich” (forced labor), sources and approaches for the narration of migration stories, exhibiting migration.

Reading in class, oral presentations, written paper, discussion, exercises.

Course with continuous performance assessment: attendance to all sessions, active participation, comments, oral presentation with handout, written paper (10-15 pages).
