This course accompanies and complements the “Einführung in die Didaktik des Fremdsprachenunterrichts”. The workshop sessions are closely linked with the topics covered in the “Einführung” and exemplify the language-specific practical implementation of the theoretical underpinnings of communicative language teaching. Aims of this course include: • experiencing the symbiotic relationship between principles and practice • reflecting critically the methodological principles behind such practice • generating practical ways of implementing such principles • analysing approaches that encourage learner autonomy

A series of informal workshops where a range of communicative activities are experienced, the aims behind them analyzed and conclusions drawn. Areas covered include: using visuals communicatively, generating lesson plans, promoting interculturalism, bridging and integrating skills, planning a term’s work with a CEFR B1 level class, activating receptive vocabulary, using video and modern media communicatively, among others.

Trainer-facilitated workshop mode, with English as lingua franca, involving individual tasks, pairwork and group activities. From receptive intake, via critical awareness, towards productive and creative output.

Portfolio to be completed in the course of the term, active participation and homework.
