-to understand the importance of reading and writing skills in language teaching

-to learn useful teaching techniques and strategies for improving learners’ reading and writing skills

-to design balanced lesson plans with a focus on reading and writing

-to discuss the role of grammar teaching in the English language classroom in an action-oriented approach

Introduction to the main principles behind reading and writing and the importance of these two skills in the classroom, discussion of ways how to implement them, design of lesson plans based on teaching material used in Austrian schools.

In this course we are going to introduce the main principles behind reading and writing and the importance of these two skills in the classroom.

-Discussion of ways how to implement the skills drawing on research in Applied Linguistics

-Suggestions for helping our students develop their reading and writing skills at all levels

-Various ways of teaching grammar, e.g. ways of integrating grammar into a skills-based lesson; teaching grammar through texts; teaching grammar using a task-based model of instruction and ways of dealing with grammar errors;

Workshop mode including input by tutor, discussions, individual work, group work, presentations and / or classroom simulations
