Competence of different theoretical approaches to history, deepening analysis of sources, to embark on writing of the first scientific thesis.

The topic of the seminar is situated between the "history of mentalities", "new military history" and "political communication". War and war experience got processed individually as well as publicly. Therefore interesting source material can either be diaries and letters or articles in newspapers.

After having discussed the mentioned theoretical approaches, the students have to interpret sources from the area of 17th to 20th centuries' Austria along the topic of the seminar. The outcome finds entrance into the bachelor's thesis. This process will be accompagnied and supported throughout the semester.

Input by the leader of the course, common discussion of theoretical texts, accompanied analysis of sources, writing a bachelor's thesis (two individual meetings throughout the semester), oral presentations by the participants.

Attendance at all sessions, willingness to read and prepare scientific articles in advance of the sessions, regular and active participation in discussions, processing of sources, oral presentation, written paper (about 30 pages).

Basic literature will be announced in the seminar. Research of further specific literature is part of the deepening scientific knowledge, that students have to perform in the seminar.

Positive completion of compulsory modules 1, 2, 7 and 13.
