Quantitative and qualitative developments of financial markets; financial crises; forms of market integration and their outcomes; institutions and economy; Vienna’s Black Friday and the consequences; theoretical and political concepts of crisis management; comparison Europe 1918-1938 and Africa in the late 20^th century; processes of monetary integration and disintegration and financial crises: a diachronic comparition between Austria-Hungary, the UdSSR and her successors and the European (Monetary) Union.

Study of selected literature and primary sources; discussing selected financial market theories on the background of historical data; preparation and presentation of a written seminar paper.

The student’s performance is evaluated on the basis of a written seminar paper (50%), the knowledge of basic readings (25%) and an active participation (25%).
