With this lecture it is intended to recognise essential aspects and connections of the worldwide economic crisis of the 1930s, to handle critically with contemporary and new literature and to interpret historical springs. The students compile exact questions as a starting point for scientific work and brisk. In addition it is to be investigated inevitably independently literature and to quote, to tie together knowledge from different springs and theories. The participant thereby appropriate specialised covering competence like scientific draughts and studies – also of other disciplines – and integrate this into own considerations. Scientific knowledge is copiled independently and this is presented in verbal, written and visualised form.

The seminar encloses an introduction to the worldwide economic crisis of the 1930s in Austria and his meaning on the single levels of the society. The developments within and beyond Austria are deepened by relations to theoretical draughts (e.g., Thomas theorem, self fulfilling prophecy from Merton), by image of scientific studies (The unemployed people of Marienthal of Jahoda, field Lazars, Zeisel), by the work with reminiscent springs in the form of interviews and the development of the economic statistics at that time (Statistical annals, quantitative elevations) as well as are analysed in her interaction. Perspectives on inhärente aspects like unemployment (controlled), social layouts, comparison with other countries and with the crisis since 2008, historical review and view (before 1929 and after 1937) and in general crises in economic, more socially as of political regard are opened for another main settlement.

The lecture is based on the reading of central texts and integrates alternately the common analysis of the different springs (newspapers, interviews, statistics, reports into radio, television and Internet), the impulse seminar paper of the teachers as well as critical discussions and discussions of the students in varying social forms (small groups, plenary sitting) with different methods (World café, Mind-Maps, short presentations with flipcharts) and leads thus to the development of essential technologies of scientific work as well as the contents.

Presence (duty), active participation in the group works (presentation, discussion), structured scientific seminar work (15 sides, integration at least of one spring), accompanying partner's exchange to the written seminar work about the whole semestre on an on-line platform with final constructive criticism of this work.
