Graduates of this module have obtain in-depth knowledge of a of a field of higher mathematics. They are also familiar with relevant mathematical literature and are able to evaluate their mathematical content. The content of the seminar is based on the higly active field of compressed sensing.

"Compressed sensing" is a new and very active research field that was first founded just a few years ago by Candes, Tao, Donoho and coauthors. The goal is the determination of a high-dimensional parameter set from significantly fewer measurements than unknowns. Mathematically this leads to the solution of an underdetermined system of linear equations which can be solved by adding prior information about the desired solution. In this seminar we develop the mathematical foundations of compressed sensing and study practical applications of the theory.
