The bridge course in computer science is open to all entering students in the Bachelor programs of computer science and computer science education. Participation is optional but recommended to all beginning students. This introductory course offers
- background knowledge about computers and computer science to ease the transition into university studies,
- a refresher of mathematical background expected by university courses,
- first-hand insider advice on university studies,
- opportunities to meet fellow students and form study groups even before the semester starts.
- Introduction to algorithms and programming: systematic formulation of problems and their solutions in terms of sequences of trivial steps; implementation of solutions by computer programs
- Introduction to the computer: CPU, RAM, mass storage, operating systems, interactive shells; introduction to Linux/UNIX: basic concepts and the most important commands
- Formal concepts: meaning and application of formal notation and methods in computer science; recap of important mathematical concepts from a computer science point of view
Informal lectures, diskussions, theoretical paper exercises, practical computer exercises
Course examination according to § 7, statute section on "study-law regulations"
Will be discussed in the first lesson.
