Learning Outcome:

to understand reasons and consequences of the limited predictability of the atmosphere, and mesoscale processes so that they can make and verify weather forecasts

Contents:

automated forecasts applying statistical postprocessing to output from numerical weather prediction models
how to handle forecast uncertainty: ensemble forecasts and their verification
analysis and forecast of mesocale weather phenomena (convection, winter precip, fog, foehn) using appropriate tools (limited area models, objective analyses, radar, satellite, webcams, traditional observing system)
applying knowledge to case studies
