Prerequisites:
The learner understands simple sentences and common expressions in areas pertinent to life - e.g. personal and family details and
has knowledge of Hiragana and Katagana and of common Kanji characters.

Goal:
At this level the learner can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance – e.g. personal and family information, shopping, work, immediate environment; he/she can communicate in routine situations of information exchange on familiar and routine matters; he/she can describe in simple terms aspects of their background, education, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need. Emphasis on Kanji characters

Topics:
a trip to a vineyard; visit to the doctor; to introduce oneself; in a city; arrival in Fukuoka

Linguistic Goals:
to request someone to do/ not to do something; to prohibit something; to allow something; to describe people/ things with various features; to describe and justify situations; to compare people/ things with one another; to voice intentions; to express abilities/ intentions/ assumptions; to tell something in narrative style

Structural Goals:
“-te kudasai “, “-nai de kudasai“ – to request someone to do/ not to do something; “-te wa ikemasen“, “-temo iidesu“  – to allow/ prohibit something; “-ga itai desu“;  “-te komarimasu“  – to describe one‘s condition and situations; “koto ga dekimasu“ – to express an ability; “-koto ni narimashsu“, “-koto ni shimasu“ – to express a decision; “A no hoo ga B yori (ookii)” to compare two items with each other; “A to B to dochira no hoo ga (ookii)” to ask for another person’s opinion on two things in comparative terms; “A to B to C no naka de A ga ichiban (ookii)”  to compare three or more items; deshoo“ – to express an assumption; to use “tsumori”  to express an intentions;  “naru”  to indicate changes in quality; „-n desu“ – to tell something in a narrative way

interactive language instruction
written and oral midterm test (testing of writing, listening and reading comprehension) and final test (testing of writing, listening and reading comprehension and speaking/dialogues)
