This course will be conducted in Innsbruck, Austria, as part of the University of New Orleans’ Academic Year abroad (AYA) program. This course is conducted as historical linguistics with the subtitle: HISTORY OF THE GERMAN LANGUAGE. Unless all students taking this course have sufficient proficiency in German, class sessions will be conducted primarily in English with German examples and practice in German. This course may be taken for linguistics credit by non-German majors. Analysis of German phonetic principles with extensive practices and corrective drills in the language laboratory and with special reference to the teaching of German pronunciation to English-speaking students.
All required reading provided. Readings in English, discussions in English with extensive practice in German pronunciation and a focus on acquiring German vocabulary and idiomatic phrases. Students must conduct themselves in appropriate manner and abide by all policies outlined in the UNO Judicial Code. Cheating, plagiarism, and academic misconduct will not be tolerated.
