Advanced competence in the history of philosophy; ability to study original texts critically.

We will study text from the 17th century, focusing on the Cartesian dualist account of human beings and on the ways how 17th century philosophy dealt with the ensuing issues. Occasionalism and Spinozism are sometimes considered as dead ends in the history of philosophy. In the seminar we will critically examine this point of view and look at the relevance of these philosophies today.
