608430 History of Literature and Literary Life in Present Times: Alternative Worlds and Counter-Cultures in 1900
summer semester 2014 | Last update: 15.12.2014 | Place course on memo listCompetence of interpreting texts of German literature, taking into account (inter) cultural, theoretical, social and historical contexts according to scientific principles. Knowledge of the topic Modern / 'Lebensreform' / counter-culture - even in theoretical terms.
Around the turn of the century, a large number of movements can be observed, developping alternative life and art designsaccording to official culture. The spectrum includes 'Wandervögel', 'Jugendbewegte' and vegetarians as well as Theosophists, 'Lichtkämpfer' and 'Ausdruckstänzer'. They all have left their mark in numerous literary texts, when literature was not the same as an important element of such communities or networks. On this basis, the seminar would provide a systematic access to the reform movements of the time and ask about their role within social and aesthetic processes of modernization.
