When Otto Rank wrote his study on the subject of the Doppelgaenger in 1925, he based it particularly on ancient texts. In different ancient cultures of different times, doubles, alter egos and impostors adopting another identity are a common theme. In the context of the seminar, different Eastern, Macedonian and Roman cases will be discussed and analyzed. A special focus will be on the literary traditions, topoi as well as on the socio-political background.
