Knowledge of some seminal Greek texts, most of them rather short, but also of four entire dramas, in the context of the history of Greek literature.

Some of the most important Greek texts  from Homer to Aristotle, to be specified in February. Please see the list in Mrs Steixner's office (room 4. OG / 04S-30). Please disregard any other infomartion you may find on the internet as it is no longer valid.

Lecture, assessment is based on a single examination at the end of the course.

The written exam  will consist of 8 questions, most of them consisting of two or three parts. They may concern some of the set authors or texts in general, including literary genre and, of course, aspects of the set passages. You will eventually find the texts in the Semesterapparat, but I strongly suggest buying some of them (e.g. the dramas). The respective texts are to be prepared before each lesson, or, failing that afterwards. When preparing them, please do not rely on dated literature (e.g. Lesky Geschichte der griechischen Literatur), commentaries intended for High School students, Wikipedia, your memory, movies or TV shows.

Allgemeine Sekundärliteratur: Thomas Paulsen, Geschichte der griechischen Literatur, aber nicht nur zu den Autoren bzw. Texten, die wir uns gemeinsam ansehen, sondern die folgenden Abschnitte: I; II, 1; V, 1-4; VI, 1-3; VII 1 f.; VIII 1-5; IX 1-3. Aber beachten Sie zu Paulsen die Kopiervorlage mit meinen Korrekturen und Zusätzen. Diese wird spätestens ab April im Sekretariat ausliegen und/oder online gestellt werden. Zu Aristoteles: Dorothea Frede, Art. Aristoteles, Der Neue Pauly, dazu ein Blatt mit Korrekturen von mir, das ich ebenfalls im Sekretariat auslegen und/oder online stellen lassen werde.
