An archaeology of colonial perspectives and situations.

Western colonialism was a predominantly modern phenomenon. In this context, the academic perspective has changed significantly with the postcolonial turn: Apart from the history of empires or colonial “gold mills”, the focus is mainly on the colonial situation, micro-colonialisms and increasingly on perception processes, as well as the colonial perspective, civilising missions or glottophagy (L.-J. Calvet). In this respect, world system theories or decolonisation are looked at in a more differentiated way. In addition, during the seminar we will discuss questions of “inner” colonisation, as, for instance, during the Habsburg Monarchy.

Preparatory phase, brief presentations incl. discussion, group work incl. reading of (source) texts.

Continuous participation, presentation and written paper.
