The First World War set new standards, not only in respect to length, extent and intensity of the armed conflict at the fronts, but also in various other areas, such as the use of mass media and the need to mobilise the population. The war, therefore, took place not only at the battlefronts, it also dominated life in the hinterland (the so called home front) and not least the media (coverage). This course deals with different visual media (such as illustrated newspapers, picture postcards, posters, film) and with the question, which images of the war they disseminated.
