summer semester 2014 | Last update: 29.01.2014 | Place course on memo listWith the example of the history of education, especially the history of our school system, the students acquire knowledge on these topics, skills in dealing with historical sources, and in looking for and working with literature of Austrian History as well as skills in presenting their acquired knowledge orally and written; they can formulate a relevant research question wthin the field of a smaller historical topic, look for the necessary literature and printed sources and present their results orally in an adequate form. They are able to accept constructive critique and then to write a text in the mode of a scientific paper.
At the moment, questions of education are intensely discussed in the public, starting with the education of pre-school teachers up to the special tasks of universities of applied sciences and traditional universities and the transparency and "permeability" of our school system that has been developed during the last centuries. In the field of Austrian History there are plenty of sources dealing with this rich topic with which the historical genesis of our present situation can be analyzed.
brief introductions to the subject; reading and analyzing scientific essays and historical sources together in class; working in groups
The students are expected to be present regularly and to take an active part in the course; they have to do smaller tasks alone or in groups; oral presentation of their own topic, including a handout; moderation of discussion; paper (15 pp.)
basic literature will be announced in the course; research of further specific literature is part of the students´tasks.
