720340 Special Clinical Methods of Research
summer semester 2014 | Last update: 04.03.2014 | Place course on memo listThe aim is to learn to apply the Facial Action Coding System (FACS) independently by means of the manual.
In the course of this seminar, the appliance of the Facial Action Coding System (FACS) will be conveyed to the students. FACS is a reliable and objective method to detect facial expressions especially applied in the context of emotional facial expressions. Movements of individual facial muscles are encoded by FACS from slight changes in the facial appearance. Due to the detailed examination of faces, this technique is very time-consuming. Photos or videos of faces can be coded with FACS.
The appearance changes of the face will be introduced and illustrated by using written descriptions (manual), still images, and digital video examples. Furthermore, students will be thought to produce the facial movements on their own. Students learn to code photos independently. In class, the coding of video sequences will be practiced
The FACS final test consists of 34 short video sequences. It has to be coded in the FACS room of the institute of psychology.
