103261 Theories of Interpersonal Communication
winter semester 2014/2015 | Last update: 14.09.2023 | Place course on memo listThe students have a knowledge of a selection of theoretical communication theories as well as their relevance in order to professionally cope with interpersonal conflicts.
What happens when two or more people communicate on a face-to-face bases with each other? Why does interpersonal communication sometimes succeed and sometimes it doesn’t? Which consequences do psychological, physiological and cognitive constraints have on interpersonal communication? Is it possible to successfully create communicative processes with the help of specific techniques? The students are going to critically discuss the principles of the ontogenetic development of human communication based on various theoretical approaches (e.g. Habermas, computer mediated communication, Schulz v. Thun, Rothe/Sbandi) and different communication trainings (e.g. validation).
The students’ task is to theoretically and practically illustrate one specific topic to their fellow students, for example by using video material. This means that communicating among the students is an integral part of the seminar.
