The aim of this course is to prepare students for academic writing in English. It will focus on punctuation, analysing texts and learning how to compose well-structured and varied sentences, as well as coherent and cohesive paragraphs. The course will also deal with paraphrasing, summarising and summary writing in order to equip students with the necessary skills to compose academic texts.
The following topics will be covered in this course:
Clause types and sentence types; Fixing sentence problems; Noun, adverb and adjective clauses; Participial phrases; Relative clauses; Punctuation; Paragraph structure; Unity and coherence; Supporting details; Paraphrasing and summarising; Structure of an essay; Summary writing; Academic vocabulary
