Overview of the societal structural change and the different policy fields of the EU. Various mechanisms of discrimination will also be covered in the context of structural change.

Human Security has become increasingly important in international relations. State Sovereignty is increasingly revised by security of the individual, which is called human security. This course addresses to what extent the European Common Foreign and Security Policy is adapting itself to this paradigm change in international relations and international politics. The main focus of the case study will be the EU-Policy towards the Horn of Africa due to increasing terror threats and piracy. The key question of the lecture is: are the EU and Africa going to be more peaceful through human security?
