Knowledge and examination of central aspects of literary criticism

Customer reviews, lay and professional literary criticism.

Are customer reviews (eg Amazon) 'bad' and the Feuilleton 'good'? What really distinguishes professional literary criticism of lay criticism? We will discuss on the basis of selected examples, what differences can be demonstrated empirically in the rating system of the so-called professional literary criticism and lay criticism. The course will also focus upon the question, which traditions can be linked to the different rating models. We will analyze and compare different genres of literary criticism in traditional and New Media. Particular emphasis is placed on ensuring that different literary genres from high and popular culture are taken into account. Proposed Authors and books: Sibylle Lewitscharoff: Killmousky (2014); Frank Schätzing: Breaking News (2014); Durs Grünbein: Das erste Jahr (2001).
