Introduction to Technical Computer Science

Students will get first insights into computer engineering. The main focus lies on the architecture of digital computers and the concepts for realizing digital circuits, computer arithmetics and processor systems. The topics covered in the lecture will be deepened and various new aspects, for example machine-oriented programming, will be discussed.

  • conzepts of computer organization; performance evaluation and optimization
  • drafting simple electronic circuits
  • computer arithmetics; instruction set arithmetics; machine-oriented programming
  • storage organisation
  • increasing performance: pipelining and caching
  • interfaces and communication
  • multiprocessor systems and alternative architectures

Discussion and practice of the topics covered in the lecture; exercise scientific argumentation and presentation of topics related to computer engineering.

This bachelor class is taught in German. Almost all course material is available in German. The class splits into a lecture and a proseminar.

The course is a continuous assessment course.

As there is no possiblity for a module exam without grading the Proseminar separately students have to take exams for both the lecture and the proseminar. The two exams will take place consecutively.

Proseminar: written exam, bonus points for homework assignments (all excercises have to be done completely and influence the grading!)

The students are allowed to bring exactly one handwritten A4 sheet and the MIPS reference card to the exam. The A4 sheet can be structured ad libitum. Further material is not allowed.

Requirement for the exam about the lecture: none; for the exam about the proseminar: solving all homework assignments.
