English
  • Explain the historical and social context of distributed hypertext systems
  • List and describe the Linked Data principles
  • Name and outline popular vocabularies
  • Apply traversal strategies to Linked Data on the web
  • Outline and analyse query processing strategies
  • Explain basics of web architecture and RESTful architecture styles
  • Write and debug declarative reactive programs over REST resources
  • List and describe different architectures of advanced user agents

The Linked Data principles facilitate access to data and software components on the web. The amount of Linked Data attainable through the web is rapidly increasing, with a large number of individuals and organisations providing access to their sources and systems. Thus, Linked Data on the web provides a rich test bed for applying algorithms and methods that operate in a global information ecosystem.

The lecture covers foundational techniques from a broad range of fields, such as databases, software engineering and artificial intelligence, adapted to work with web architecture. The overall theme of lecture is towards facilitating data integration and system interoperation, based on resource-oriented modelling, transferring representations of resource state between user agent and server, and decentralised linking between resources.

The lecture sets out with a history of hypertext systems, followed by an introduction to web architecture and knowledge representation. Further, the lecture includes material on algorithms for crawling, query evaluation and reasoning. Finally, the lecture covers architectures and techniques for intelligent agents, as an integrated application of the various topics of the lecture.

The block seminar runs for 7 days, with two sessions daily. In the morning session we cover concepts and methods; in the afternoon session there is a practical part with exercises concerning the respective topics.
